Mary Margaret Moore
Mary Margaret “Meg” Moore peacefully went to be with her Lord on Nov. 6, 2023. She was born in Laurel on Sept. 29, 1956, to John Knox Mayfield Sr. and Mary Mayfield.
Meg was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years Randall Ray Moore; three children, Ben Moore (Meredith), Margaret Anne James (Wesley) and John Randall Moore (Leslie); seven grandchildren, Charles Moore, Hamilton Moore, Madalyn Moore, Caleb James, Mary Kate James, Henry Moore and Claire Moore; sister Deon Jones; brother John Knox Mayfield Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Meg touched many lives and viewed every situation as an opportunity to minister, whether in the church or in the community. She was an integral part of the youth ministry at First Baptist Church, served as a mentor to many young women through Bible study and promoted the sport of swimming in Jones County. Meg’s kind and generous Christian spirit and selfless service to others were examples for all who knew her.
Her family thanks her faithful caregivers Samantha Skipper, Quay Miranda, Kasey Sherman and Amanda Jenrette. Meg loved them like they were family.

Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 9, from 1-3 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Laurel. Interment will be in Summerland Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Shannon Slover will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Chambers, Jack Evans, Ned Hinton, Kent Holifield, Doug Jefcoat, Lance Jefcoat and David Rice.
